The Lab at Patent Pending is, in fact, a hidden cavern connected through a natural arch inside the speakeasy Patent Pending, which is itself accessible only through a hidden door in Patent Coffee, a cafe by day. So basically, it’s a concealed bar, within a secret bar, within a public coffee shop. What’s cool is that this is the building in which Nikola Tesla lived and performed his experiments on radio waves, transmitting them to his laboratory near present day Trinity Church in downtown Manhattan. They say the ‘waves’ that guided you here (GPS) and surround you now (WiFi) were envisioned by Tesla more than a century ago. Born during a lightning storm, Nikola Tesla was a child of light. He was an eccentric genius, an ‘Electric Messiah’. Patent Pending toasts to him, and the countless others, that think outside the box, and persevering against all odds. The cocktails here are as creative, out-of-the-box, and eccentric as they come, assuming you can successfully find it first.
