At Blue Hill Family Meal, expect a menu-less dining experience in the spirit of the restaurant’s family style meal. Shared plates highlight Blue Hill’s roster of vegetables and grains (with meats playing a supporting role), served family style. The focus is on sustainability, taking whatever is prominent and fresh at the moment. The goal is not over interfering too much, and letting the natural flavors shine. Most ingredients are sourced from either Blue Hill Farm, the Barber family’s dairy in Great Barrington (MA), the Stone Barns Center for Agriculture in Pocantico Hills (NY), or from farms within 250 miles of New York City.
Blue Hill New York has been opened since 2000, but the evolution into Blue Hill Family Meal began in the summer of 2021. Although dining at this One Michelin star Blue Hill Family Meal in NYC offers a taste of what Chef Dan Barber has created, it certainly cannot replace the Two Michelin star Blue Hill Stone Barns experience that awaits you up at the farm in Tarrytown. That is an excursion I definitely recommend as a bucket list effort well worth making. However, Blue Hill Family Meal may just have to do until the stars align and you’re lucky enough to snag a reservation at Stone Barns. In the meantime, Blue Hill Family Meal is just a short taxi ride away to the village and the next best thing.

Peas
*I rarely get to taste peas fresh vs. frozen… this was a delightful treat
Sorghum Flour | Asparagus
Sorghum flour is high in fibre and a good source of anti-oxidants which helps fight inflammation and heart disease. It is a low food so slow to digest and helps to balance out blood sugars.
Radishes Rolls Taco with Crab Fava Bean
Chickpea Stew
Bread and Pig Lard with Scallions
*so delicious!
New Potatoes | Salad
*refreshing and tasty, makes you feel better after the pig lard =)
Asparagus
Pancakes
*no idea/ can’t remember what it’s made of, but it was delicious
Pig
Dessert Pea Pie | Honey Truffles | Strawberries | Candied hazelnuts
*loved the pea pie, especially the crust
*I’m all for sustainability, but this chef written “menu” at Blue Hill Family Meal didn’t quite cut it for me… it was really hard to remember what we ate after they gave this to us at the END of the meal in lieu of a traditional menu.
